I have encountered the exact same problem with the basic firewall. The other problem I have is that even if I update the rules to explicitly allow my dns servers in, when I reset the system the rules always return to defaults and everything breaks again. It can't even seem to remember that it is supposed to be disabled after a restart. Where is the default chain info stored?
